What Did Jesus Mean?

When I read certain verses in the New Testament account it’s puzzling that Jesus made it seem so immenent that He was soon to return to establish His kingdom on earth. From statements made in the gospels such as Mat 10:23 “When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.“

or in Mat 24:34 “Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.“

or in Mat 16:28 “Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

or in John’s account in the book of Revelation 1:1 “The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John,”
