HOTEL CALIFORNIAOn May 7, 1977, The Eagles topped the Billboard Hot 100 with their hit song, “Hotel California.” Because the song clocked in at a whopping 6.5 minutes, the record label was hesitant to release it, but the band refused to shorten it — a gamble that paid off. Although it wasn’t their first No.1 in the U.S., the tune went on to become the band’s signature hit and was Certified Gold just 3 months after its release. It is considered one of the greatest rock songs of all time and is now particularly noted for its guitar solo and lyrical descriptions of what the band termed “the high life in Los Angeles.” |
